Cranial Visions Book: Exploring the Skull Through Art
I’m so happy to deliver Cranial Visions news!
Yes indeed, the newest book project that I have been working on with Mike DeVries and Jeff Johnson is finally done and the books are IN! These two tattooing dynamos asked me to do the writing and editing for Cranial Visions and what a pleasure it was. I learned so much in researching history about the skull and all of its mysteriousness. It was a pleasure working alongside Mike and Jeff, as well as Jamie Parker, who did the layout and design for this gorgeous treasure.
This 8 x 12” hardback book features 240 full-color pages of cranium-centered artwork. The history of the skull is rich and fascinating. Of course, as an essential element in the human skeleton, they are vital to us all, but the symbolic meaning of the skull goes much deeper. Skulls have long been associated with mortality, religion, power, protection, eternal life, fear, and rebellion. Used as an icon, in rituals, literature, and of course, art, the skull is a legendary fixture in creative circles.
Cranial Visions honors the skull through artistic interpretations and many different mediums, including: tattoos, paintings, sketches and drawings, mixed media, digital art, graffiti, photography, and “skullptures.” Each chapter is dripping with inspirational images created by masters of their crafts. Over 800 diverse, bold, and creative images of skull-related artwork. An outstanding book for reference if you are a tattoo artist, as it features angles and ideas from all sorts of perspectives.
The book features artists like:
