A Message To My Kids on Mother's Day
I know that Mother's Day is a time to thank and recognize moms, but this Mother's Day, I want to take the opportunity to thank my kids and shift the focus a bit. I want them to know how happy I am to be their mom and that I get the chance to walk beside them during these days of their journey through life.
When they were little, I walked ahead of them, leading them and teaching them things that they needed to discover.
Now that they are a little older, I feel like I am still showing them pieces of the puzzle and sharing lessons that I have learned along my own path - but I walk alongside them now - watching and enjoying the fact that they each are becoming their own person.
I know that soon I will have to walk a few steps behind - watching them take off in the direction that their lives will carry them. Still learning, sharing, teaching - but leaving them with confidence that they will fly their own course.
It's a curious job, that of being a parent. There is no rule book, guide, or map. There are challenges, there are frustrations, there are trials. There is also a lot of joy and happiness, scattered amongst the immense amount of memories.
Of all the roles I have played and continue to work on in my life, none is as fascinating, amazing, or rewarding as that of being Brynn, Shea, and Aidan's mom. They teach me more about myself and life than I ever dreamed possible. Them and their dad are my FAVORITE reason to get up every morning and the light that guides my path each day.
On this Mother's Day, I just want them to know how glad I am to be a mom. Their mom.
