Quote About Books, Crimes and Reading from Nobel Prize Winner

"There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them." - Joseph Alexandrovitch Brodsky*

**Brodsky was a Russian-American poet. He was denounced by the Soviet government in 1963 and was exiled from the Soviet Union in 1972. He emigrated to the United States, where he became a citizen in 1977. In 1978, he earned a Doctor of Letters degree from Yale.  Brodsky taught at several colleges, received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1987; and The Library of Congress appointed him poet laureate in 1991. He died in 1996 and the eulogy at his memorial service included words of other poets, set to music.
