History of Pig Latin: Google & Translate in PL Too
Since today's "Word of the Day" comes to us from Pig Latin, I thought I would write a bit about this silly language and provide you with some fun oinkity links. Pig Latin is a language game primarily used in English. To play the PL way, just move the initial letter to the end of the word and add 'ay." Thus, Pig Latin is ig-pay atin-lay. It is believed that Monks in the Middle Ages played word games like this with real Latin, hence the name.
Ginger Rogers sang a Pig Latin verse of the song, 'We're in the Money' in the 1933 movie, Gold Diggers. The Three Stooges (Curly, Larry, and Mo) were famous for using Pig Latin in their bits; and who can forget the Pig Latin scenes from the modern television shows, The Simpsons and South Park?
