Circumstances

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them." - George Bernard Shaw

Amen to that, Jinxi. I completely agree. Just this week we were talking about that very subject as it relates to those who tend to go through life using past circumstances to make excuses for their current state of apathy, lack of success or anti-social behaviour.

The things that happened to us in the past we may not have had any control over, however we do have control over what kind of people we choose to be today.

I soooo agree! I grew up with such an environment. The world is full of those who had similar circumstances and different results. Consider this : Two brothers, spaced less than a year apart, were both raised by a hard working single Mom who lierd in the "projects", the best she could acquire on her modest income. She was honest, hardworking, and diligent with her parenting efforts. One of her sons, tragically, became one of the stereotypical statistics. He was gunned down running drugs for a mid level drug lord, after accomplishing quite an extensive rap-sheet. The other son, from the same situation, became a multi-million dollar entrapanuer of a "give peace a chance" program, helps inner city youth see an actual virtual image of what their tomorrow could be, determined by answering a simple questioneer regarding basic life choices. How could this occur? What drove one sibling to feel he had no possoble future or even an outlet and another to see that he must create his own? Whoever can solve that puzzle? To earnestly try is to begin to succeed. Thank you Jinxi. xoxo, Lisa
