Would You Rent a Billboard to Land a New Job?
Extreme circumstances require extreme measures. At least that's what Pasha Stocking must believe. The 37-year-old single mother from East Hampton, Conneticut, lost her job in June and after trying all sorts of things to land a new one, she decided to rent a billboard along Interstate 95 in Bridgeport. The sign says, "Hire Me!" and displays her website. Though she hasn't disclosed how much the billboard cost to rent, the bb company says on its website that a sign similar to Pasha's cost about $7,000 a month.
Would you rent a billboard in hopes of getting hired?

If I was a single mom with $7,000, I would not spend it on a billboard.
Interesting concept she employed, but I think it is silly & wasteful.
With proper dedication & skill, I am sure she could just as easily get a job without the bb.
It does send a slightly confusing message inasmuch as she's a single mom with no job and the $7K would be an awful lot of money to gamble in one go [and it's not making her a terribly sympathetic candidate in that regard], however on a certain level I have to applaud the gutsy-ness and ingenuity.
I think she'd have been better off investing considerably less than that in hiring a professional headhunting firm to market her, or perhaps putting together a really fabulous CV/portfolio and mass mailing it out to employers of choice. But, at the end of the day, if the billboard it gets her a job then good for her, I hope it works!
