Pixies Fans, Start Saving Your Pennies
I have been a Pixies fan since the first time I heard the Surfer Rosa album in the late 1980's. I saw the Pixies play at a tiny club in Salt Lake City in 1989 and got to meet and chat with Kim Deal after the show, who was ever-so-kind and charming. Steve and I have seen them live almost a dozen times and are always thrilled when any of their music peeks into our lives.
To celebrate their incredible body of work, A+R will be releasing Minotaur on June 15, 2009; available as both a Deluxe Edition and Limited Edition set. The Deluxe Edition will include all five Pixies studio albums - Come On Pilgrim (1987), Surfer Rosa (1988), Doolittle (1989), Bossanova (1990), and Trompe le Monde (1991) - on 24k layered CD and Blu-ray (five discs total), with reinterpreted artwork by Vaughan Oliver, the graphic designer who created all of the artwork that accompanied the Pixies' studio albums. Oliver's work is amazing and always added an extra-special touch to already-incredible albums. Also included in the Deluxe Edition will be a DVD of a Pixies 1991 performance at the Brixton Academy in London, the group's videos, possible bonus tracks, and a 54-page book, all housed in a custom slip case.
The Minotaur Limited Edition version will include everything in the Deluxe Edition, as well as all five albums on 180 gram vinyl, a Giclee print of Oliver's artwork, and a 72-page hardcover book, all housed in an oversized custom clamshell cover.
Unfortunately, being a die-hard Pixies fan does not come cheap. The Deluxe Edition will be $175.00; while the Limited Edition Version cha-chings in at $450.00. I might just have to enjoy the pretty packaging from afar and pull out my old Pixies vinyl that I bought the year after I graduated from high school, at the Mad Platter Record Store in Riverside for $8.00.
Watch this video to see Vaughan Oliver talk about the project and catch glimpses of other musicians' praise of the Pixies, their influence, and their legacy.

more like, "Obama I need a bailout for the new Pixies limited edition set". Wow! I love me some Pixies, but for $450 they better come and play at my house. Too bad they didn't make a new album, or even a e.p.
I have a rare and really funny interview with Pixies guitarist Joe Santiago. He also world premiers some new music that rocks. I think Pixies fans around the globe will love the opportunity to get to know an enigmatic guy who is basically very private. Please share this youtube clip. There is also a full site that plays more clips.
