Miss California @ It Again on Gay Marriage: She Represents Who?

Last week, I wrote about the initial stumble by Miss California during the Miss USA Pageant, when she answered a question posed by Perez Hilton.  This is a new clip of Miss Cali claiming that she represents "not only my state, but the nation that I live in" with her views on gay marriage.  I believe that there are MANY people in the state of California that would strongly disagree that she represents THEM!

What do you think?

HAHAHAHAHA, I love it. If the ads did nothing but notify people, then why were they so deceptive? If you think that money spent on ads does nothing to shape public opinion, then it is no wonder that you are a follower of organized religion and love Miss California so much.

As for your talk about Nazis, again, you simply need to get an education on this topic. Sorry to be so blunt with that statement. I want freedom for all and you want to hold down a group of people based on your opinion of them, and I am the Nazi? Wow. That is so incredibly ignorant that I am at a loss of words (which, by the way, does not happen very often).

Now for this gem: "government is, it is a representative democracy with judicial oversight. The purpose of it is NOT to protect the minority, but rather be a system in which our society can prosper and progress through a set of procedures"

You left out the constitutionally limited part. Whatever the executive, legislative or judicial branches do, it is limited by the powers granted to them by the Constitution. Perhaps if you read up on this topic you would have a greater understanding of this subject. I would suggest starting with the Federalist Papers, specifically #10; you will see why Madison was so against pure democracy.

Madison strongly opposed pure or direct democracy as being dangerous to individual rights and supported a system of representative democracy in order to protect the minority or the individual from majority rule. He knew that if the majority had the power to do what it wanted to the minority then individual freedom would suffer. He says, "A pure democracy can admit no cure for the mischief's of faction. A common passion or interest will be felt by a majority, and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party. Hence it is, that democracies have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."

Where did you get this idea that our government is not set up to protect the minority from the majority faction?

Now to the even more interesting statement. You said, "the fact is that the federal state shouldn't even recognize marriage licenses granted by churches." Um, what? Churches do not issue marriage licenses. I am married and it was not issued by a church. The state issues marriage licenses and then you have the option of who you want to perform the ceremony. I am actually a licensed minister. All I had to do was sign up on a website and I can officially perform a wedding. I agree with you that the state should not recognize the church in any regard to marriage. It is a contractual agreement between two people, plain and simple. There is no reason why those two people cannot be of the same sex. Your whole paragraph shows me that you simply lack any knowledge regarding this topic.

Oh, and religion does have everything to do with this. It is the basis for the argument against same sex marriage.

You think that:

1) I am a Nazi because I want freedom and equality for all; while you persecute a minority that you disagree with
2) you think that our government is majority rule and was not set up in such a way as to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority
3) you think that churches issue marriage licenses

WOW. Please keep writing responses, they get even better each time that you post.

PS - As for my spelling, I did put cute instead of cut, simply a typo. Telling everyone to use a spell check feature is getting old. You have made many mistakes too. I wasn't going to point them out, but you leave me no choice:

1. Last time I checked proposition 8 passed by a majority. Check mate.
**2 mistakes here** Although you spelled proposition correctly, it should be capitalized.
Also, checkmate is one word. (Spell check just didn't catch it because the two words typed separately are spelled correctly...so, um, checkmate!)

2. preconceived does NOT have a hyphen like you typed it "pre-conceived."

3. "You are a nazi, trying to shove gay marriage down our throat, as if you have a moral authority to say so." Nazi should be capitalized.

4. "You are a Nazi because of you disregard what the majority of the population..."
That sentence does not makes sense.

5. "fact is that the federal state shouldn't even recognize marriage licenses granted by churches." What is the federal state?

Again, these are trivial matters, but because you seem to tear others down for "not using spell check," maybe you should proofread yourself before you cast the first stone.

Maybe you should check and see if FireFox has a punctuation and a history lesson plug-in. Your comments would make much more sense.

@ Tiger

Gay penguins do rule. Perhaps therevoltingx should consider why he keep talking about every guy being butt hurt, hmmmmm, maybe he wants a new friend.

yeah, I thought I read 'butt hurt' a couple times, but I was high.... muhahahahaha.

and do his 'gay friends' know his true feelings? or are they just co-workers he slides by in the hallway all day?

and does co-workers have a hyphen in it? and does I spell 'does' write?

April 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTiger

Yes you does spell it write, hahahaha. Spell check did not catch that one, because I spelled write right, but used it wrong. We need a moron checker plug-in for JInxi's site.

Miss California represents the will of the voters of California as was evidenced by the results on Prop 8. This is the actual will of the people since it was a direct vote as opposed an activist judge that was neither appointed by the people or can be removed by the people.

Okay, so she is entitled to her opinion. She might even represent the opinions of those who think like her. However, in MY opinion she is full of "it".
Oh, and she really needs to be a little more eloquent. Maybe she can take a lesson or two from Obama.. hahah.

Ugh. I'm honestly so sick and tired of hearing the opposition's reasons as to why they feel same-sex marriage is wrong. It really sickens me how some have some verses from their holy book memorized, just to make themselves more credible. Yet they tend to ignore the rest of it. I'm willing to bet that every one of those people who say are "biblically correct" by opposing same-sex marriage don't live by their little book.

Of course it is much easier to tell someone else how to live their life, yet more than likely fail miserably to live theirs by the very same thing they like to quote.

Little Miss Sunshine over here would more than likely be branded a harlot by that book's standards. Yet she feels like she can alianate a whole group of people just because "the bible tells her so". It is completely ludicrous.

I'm actually a little confused by something though. Why is it that religion is always at the forefront of the argument agains same-sex marriages? Marriage licenses are issued by the court..right? which is why when 50% run to get a divorce they do so in court. I thought that when one got a marriage license, then you had the option of getting it "sanctified" by whatever religion you affiliate yourself with. If this is not the case, someone better inform all the Atheists and other couples that opted out of the religious ceremony that they are really not married because "God" did not give them his blessing.

... that sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me personally.

In fact, even religion is split on this. Back when the Mormon and LDS bullshit machine was spewing their diatribe, I did some investigating. The noon8 website had a long, long list of religion and faith based groups who opposed prop8. Why is that?

To make this short. I believe in the equality of marriage. I don't think that allowing a loving couple to marry will take anything from me, or anyone for that matter. I fail to see how allowing same-sex couples to marry will be detrimental to society. I don't see how same-sex marriage would affect children in any way, shape or form.

Why is it that some ignorant people are too damn lazy to educate themselves on things they don't understand? Being willfully ignorant is the worst thing a person can be.

One last thing. Same-sex marriage is not being shoved down anyone's throat.. I mean, it's not like a heterosexual is going to be forced to get married to someone of their gender. However, opposing same-sex marriage based on convenient religious beliefs is shoving those beliefs down everyone's throats.

It's pretty obvious that fear is the motivator behind someone who searches the web for these kinds of posts...I doubt "revolting" is a regular reader of this site.
Miss Cal. is certainly entitled to her opinion, and is currently hanging on by one manicured nail to the popularity this whole media event has brought to her. I'm thinking Fox News will make an offer within weeks. In the meantime, some of us enjoy the fact that their world is going to change no matter how many bigoted statements they throw out there. Progress happens. Hang in there Californians-:)

I also just spit out my coffee in humor @ the "Activist Judge" comment. Thank you for that, Lisa.
