Miss California @ It Again on Gay Marriage: She Represents Who?
Last week, I wrote about the initial stumble by Miss California during the Miss USA Pageant, when she answered a question posed by Perez Hilton. This is a new clip of Miss Cali claiming that she represents "not only my state, but the nation that I live in" with her views on gay marriage. I believe that there are MANY people in the state of California that would strongly disagree that she represents THEM!

I live in CA and there is nothing about her that represents me! btw, when will she learn public speaking skills, anyway? Isn't that a core requirement for these pageant participants? sheesh!
I think it's fine she's got her own opinion but i think theres a time and place and she needs to keep it to herself instead of continuing on about the subject. Hah what I find funny is how half "her" nation is a homosexual nation, and the other half, are the ones who dont agree with gay marriage. The majority of people have gotten over the gay thing. She should speak for herself. Urgh.
I think she is intitled to her belief but she is a total idiot for saying she represents California. Just a waste of space with a pretty face.........
I would marry this girl in a heartbeat. And, hey morons, you know that she is technically correct in stating that she represents the beliefs of the state of California. (and the nation.)

To agree with Carly. Regardless of her opinion, her speaking skills are horrible. When she first answered the question during the contest she stumbled and that is what should have cost her the crown (aside from the 10 pounds of make up she was wearing.) If she cannot speak publically then she did not deserve the crown, regardless of how offensive her answer was. I find it funny that she thinks that the questions and her view on the topic is the reason she lost. Maybe it was because she sucked at speaking or was not as good as the girl who won.
She needs to get over it, start her Beauty Pageant Ministry and go on tour to preach her bullshit to thousands of evangelicals around the country.
OH and this year the crown that was given to the winner was made using "green" diamond. That shit still creates a world were people worship diamonds and it still supports the blood diamond trade and therefore should be thrown in the trash. If you are wearing a diamond on your finger, you are directly responsible for kiling a kid in some country you cannot even pronounce. (stepping down from soapbox now)

Oh and Prop 8 did pass, but it only passed due to the lies and misrepresentations of the Mormon funded advertising machine. If you have enough money and the willingness to lie, then yes you can sway public opinion. Congrats on holding down the civil rights of an entire group of people, just shows how fucking stupid and/or bigoted the majority of people are in California.
Non of this changes the fact that Miss California could not answer a simple question with a coherent sentence.

I believe it is you with the one track mind. I wasn't even thinking about it sexually, but rather because I relate to her core beliefs and because she is so pleasing to the eyes I would love to have a family with a girl like her. The only pervert here is you.
You should seriously step off your pedestal, I can strongly argue that the people are not as stupid, and easy to persuade as by some ad campaign as you're making us out to be.
It was because of their pre-conceived beliefs on marriage that they voted the way they did, and not because of some silly ads.

It does not have anything to do with you and does not have any effect on you so stop worrying about it. Obviously you have much more important things to worry about if you can base the finding of a future wife on one issue and the fact that she is pleasing to the eyes...no wonder you are so closed minded, you obviously just do not get it. What a surprise that you resort to calling someone a "liberal douche bag" because he/she believes that all Americans should be granted basic civil rights. What do you know about his friends anyway? That's a big assumption to make that his friends have the same political and humanistic viewpoints as he does. Why is it that conservatives always have to add some lameass remark behind the word "liberal" anyway? When you have nothing pertinent to say, you resort to name calling? I see.
It was not long ago that the fight for equality was countered with the same redundant hateful speech that you slew, but under a different guise. Just replace the word "gay"with "black" or "female" and you will see how ridiculous you sound.
Oh, and even though I find her appalling, I dare bet that Miss California wouldn't give you the time of day - yet you want to marry her and have babies with her. Yuck!

Um, so you do not think that the ads did anything, that hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on ads and it was the peoples core beliefs in the end that decided it. Hmm, that is an interesting theory that you have.
I find it funny that you think I am a Nazi because I support the equal rights of an entire group of people. My supporting those rights has nothing to do with you. If a person is legally allowed to marry or not marry, I fail to see how that has any bearing on your life. However, the flip side is your argument that an entire group of people should be relegated to second class. Yet I am the Nazi, again very interesting. I wonder if Hitler called the Jews he killed Nazis or fascists.
As for her not being eloquent, um well that is what she was being judged on. If she failed the public speaking then she did not deserve to win, if you read my posts above you will see that we agree on that one topic.
As for people having the right to decide, um again WRONG.
We live in a Constitutionally limited democratic republic. The purpose behind this form of government is to protect the smaller groups from the larger group. We are NOT a pure democracy were the people decide what happens, legislation must not violate the constitution. If a majority of people who voted in an election (keep in mind that when you say majority you are speaking about the majority of people who voted, not a majority of the population) voted to bring back slavery would you have the same feeling on the subject? If a majority of voters voted to not allow mix race marriage, would you have the same feeling on the subject? If a majority of voters voted to cute the pay of woman in half, would you have the same feeling on the subject? Pick any group of people and put them in that sentence and answer the question. Now I hope I know your answer, but if you are a follower of the bible as Miss California is, then I guess it would all depend on how your pastor taught you to think. The bible was used as a reason to support everyone of the examples above, just as it is being used in the argument against same sex marriage.
You say that church and state should remain separate, but you are ok with religion being used to justify bigotry against a group of people who want nothing more than to be equal to you, again, very interesting point.

As I stated in my comment, the diamonds used in this crown were not blood diamonds. However, they do keep the desire for diamonds going. Little girls grow up seeing that crap and think that one day they hope to have a big diamond ring. The existence of "green" diamonds does not help anything. They are simply red herrings to keep the masses happy while the real diamonds are mined and people are killed in the process.
As for it being my cheap way of getting out of buying diamonds, sorry that is not the case. We simply choose to spend our money on things that do not cause the death of thousands upon thousands of people every year. Much like the reason that I am a vegan is not so that I can get out of paying for a Big Mac from McD's.
I suppose that everyone does not have empathy and cannot understand this point.

Millions of dollars were spent also on 'new' coca-cola and see how that turned out.
The only reason the ad and campaign were so effective is because it 'got the word out' for people who agreed with Prop 8 to vote.
You are a Nazi because of you disregard what the majority of the population believes and want to inject your view on marriage to the general population.
I know what this government is, it is a representative democracy with judicial oversight. The purpose of it is NOT to protect the minority, but rather be a system in which our society can prosper and progress through a set of procedures.
We are now going through those procedures, and for those supporting the change must come up with a well thought out solution.
You are concentrating on the wrong issue, the fact is that the federal state shouldn't even recognize marriage licenses granted by churches. You are trying to change the way popular society and churches define marriage. Instead of trying to change the definition of marriage, trying to change the institutions which grant it, and trying to change the mentality of those who abide by it, you should try to change the underlying laws. Equality is indeed for all.
Also, I recommend you switch to FireFox as it has built-in spell checking. It should save you some embarrassment.

I have gay friends who cried to me over the phone at the jubilation they felt when it was passed, I had tears of joy for them just knowing how happy they felt that day.
