monopoly (muh-nop-uh-lee) - noun
Monopoly in economics is "a market in which there are many buyers, but only one seller." Also means "the exclusive control or possession of something."
The most fun association to the word is that of the board game Monopoly in which players try to gain a monopoly on real estate as their game tokens advance around the board, according to the throw of a die. Charles Darrow invented the Monopoly game in 1935.
