Do You Know What the Q in Q-Tip Stands For?
The Q in Q-Tip stands for QUALITY.
This common household product, was invented in the 1920's by polish-born American, Leo Gerstenzang. His wife had used a toothpick with cotton stuck on the end to clean their baby's ears; so Leo improved upon the design by using a wooden stick with cotton bound at both ends. Later down the road, the wood was replaced by white cardboard.
Gerstenzang started the Infant Novelty Company to sell his product and they were originally called Baby Gays. In 1926, he changed the name to Q-Tips Baby Gays and said that the Q stood for "quality." Eventually, the name was shortened to Q-tips.
