No Doubt on Today Show + 1990 ND Video & Gwen Tattoo
No Doubt performed on the Today Show this morning. It was fun to see them together again. Steve and I used to see No Doubt back in 1989/1990 all over Southern Cali, most notably at our favorite little club in Riverside called "Spanky's" that was a cafe during the day and a club for local bands to jam at by night. They would turn the salad bar into the stage (really, truly). It was always odd (in a good way) for us to see them climb the ladder of success after knowing them at teenagers. This video is from a night at Spanky's that we were at. The clarity isn't exceptional, but hey, this was 1990, baby! (LOL)
Because of the memories we had of those early days when we were dating, they have always had a special place in our hearts. I even had Miss G. tattooed on my leg many years ago.
I did object to the numerous promos before their performance where the hosts repeatedly said things like "Coming up, Gwen and the boys will perform..." I am sure "the boys" tire of hearing things like this. Her solo career is one thing and No Doubt is something entirely different. How well I can remember Tony and Tom dressing up in tiger costumes and bouncing around the stage back in those early days. Ahhh... how time flies!

wow she still looks great!!!!!!
I know that "Gwen and the boys" thing ticked me off too. Imagine some other bands whose lead singers did solo projects being introduced that way:
- Now please welcome Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones!
- Now please welcome Justin Timberlake and N*Sync!
- Now please welcome Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas!
Solo and bands are two separate things!
I wish I could've been a teen in that time. It would've been amazing! BTW love your tattoo!!! I have a sketch of a back piece I want done. It's the Life of No Doubt it's got different things to show the different times.
awesome video Jinxi! Did you guys ever see Sublime live? I know Brad and Gwen were friends back then. And if you did see them, I envy you more than I already do. :-)
YOUR video is amazing. I saw them - they are still great. I'm going to the show here soon...they were part of the original ska movement and no one realizes it but us and a few other thousand people (lol)...kind of funny. Gwen is simply divine, as you are, dahlink!
