Word of the Day: pursue
pursue (per-soo) - verb
To pursue is "to follow in an effort to overtake or capture; chase."
First used in the written form around 1250–1300. Pursue is a first cousin to the prosecute. Both go back ultimately to the Latin prōsequī, meaning "follow up." This led fairly directly to the English word prosecute, but it also seems to have had a Vulgar Latin descendant prōsequere, which passed into English via Old French porsivre and Anglo-Norman pursuer as pursue.
