Fourteen
My incredible twin boys turn 14 today.
I really can't believe they are that old. I know it sounds cliché, but I remember so well, this day fourteen years ago; preparing the morning of the scheduled c-section and trying to anticipate for how different it would be going from a family of three to five.
These two amazing people have always been such treasures. They were really easy and fun babies. Even during a time that was so hectic and stressful (they were born when Steve was finishing his last year of law school and their older sister had just turned two), they were always sweet and joyful; true lights in my life.
As they have grown older, they have found their own interests and gone their own directions. Different talents, different friends, different priorities. I love that about them. I love that they haven't functioned as "the twins" and have become individuals in every sense of the word.
I love seeing them sharpen their skills and hone in on their passions as they begin to prepare for high school. Even though they may not always agree, I love that they have each other and that they have journeyed through this near decade-and-a-half together, always a comrade by their side.
They are both still so kindhearted towards me and that means so much. They are so smart, so cool, so true to themselves. When I look back to only a year ago, I can't believe how much they have matured and grown since their thirteenth birthday. Not only in size, but in terms of awareness and intelligence. The way that they look at life, their critical thinking skills, their desire to make a difference. It's been amazing to watch and I can't wait to be there as it progresses.
On this special day, I just want them both to know that of all the roles I play in life, there is absolutely nothing more dear to me than that of being their mom. I cherished them from the minute they were born, and my adoration and love has increased each and every day, in ways that I never thought possible.
I am so proud of you, Shea and Aidan. I feel so lucky to be your mom. Thanks for being my sons.
Happy Birthday!

Wow, that was amazing!
Happy birthday, boys!!!
A dear friend has twin girls and has been careful right from the start not to treat them as "the twins" but rather as the individual and unique little people that they are. I have no doubt that you and Steve were also of the same mind. You've raised incredible children - what a gift to the world!
I love those pictures, they look so awesome. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Shea and Aidan!!!!! You and Steve have got to be the greatest parents a kid could have! It's easy to see how and why they are such wonderful kids and have their own individual selves. Kids learn by example and you guys are seriously great examples for any kid to strive to be. Love to all of you xoxo
