Tattoo Artist & Painter, Bugs: New Art Show "Purity in Motion"

I have been captivated by the work of tattoo artist, Bugs, since the first time I laid eyes on one of his brilliantly unique tattoos. I remember being so delighted at the twist he put on a seemingly “normal” design, when he weaved his beautiful cubism style into the piece. It transformed it into nothing I had ever seen executed in a tattoo before and I was instantly a fan.

Not only is Bugs a legend in the tattoo industry, he is also an incredibly charming and down-to-earth guy. Always very friendly at tattoo conventions and exceptional to work with in regards to the book projects that I have had the opportunity to include him in. He is always prompt, courteous, and kind…mix that with incredible talent and hard work and you’ve got one exceptional treasure in the tattoo art world.

For a little background on his tattoo journey, here is a snippet taken from his website about Bugs:

Bugs was born in Perpignan, France, a region known for its Catalan culture and an area which has influenced many artists before him including Picasso, Van Gogh and Maillol. After attending fine art school, Bugs decided to take his love of art and tattooing to London where there were chances for a career which were not available in France at the time. He opened a small tattoo studio and spent the first six years refining his craft, always drawing and working from his own designs to try to give the customer something original and different. Slowly Bugs began to develop a style unusual in the tattoo industry—a mix of cubism, art deco and classical art—which has distinguished him in the field and earned him a worldwide clientele. As well as tattooing, Bugs satisfies his creative energy by painting which is his real passion. Since moving to Los Angeles in January 2005 he has been focusing more of his energy on this first love which has resulted in the production of some of his finest work.

Lucky for fans of Bugs, he is getting ready to unveil a new body of work called “Purity in Motion” at the Sacred Gallery in NYC, beginning May 12th. “These paintings reflect a mix of different techniques showing images of nudes. Also included will be other subjects close to his heart from his background in France. To complete the show he will exhibit his first bronze sculpture which will be a 3D realization of his paintings on canvas, strongly influenced by cubism with a modern, abstract twist.”

If you have the opportunity to attend, I would HIGHLY recommend it! The grand opening will be May 12th from 7 to 11 pm at: Sacred Gallery NYC, 424 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York City 10013.

The show will run until May 29th, so don’t delay. For more information, you can visit www.sacredgallerynyc.com.
Cheers!
