Dead Weather: Jack White Takes the Drummer's Seat (video+)

I still remember the first time I stumbled upon a little snippet about a band with larger-than-life hooks, matchless stage presence, and loyalty to their peppermint swirling red-and-white style. Though they had been around for a year already at that point, I instantly fell in love with the dynamic duo known as The White Stripes. I decided to make up for lost time and went a little nuts buying up every Stripes recording I could get my hands on.

I adore that the Whites are not only quirky, but talented too. The whole sister/brother vs. wife/husband controversy was intriguing back in the early days. We now know that it was a "white" lie, but 'twas fun to theorize, nonetheless.

I even had Miss Meg permanently inked onto my leg, so I better dig her tunes, right?

Though my fascination with The Racounteurs was not quite as loopy as my Stripes love, I definitely dig them and keep their tracks a steady part of my play list lineup. So it should come as no surprise to hear that I was quite stoked to catch wind of Jack's new band, The Dead Weather. As if Mr. W wasn't busy enough, he now becomes one quarter of this intriguing new troupe.

Alison Mosshart of the indie duo The Kills does a brilliant job on lead vocals. Racounteur Jack Lawrence provides his boss bass work; Dean Ferita of Queens of The Stone Age rocks on guitar; and White keeps the bang alive on drums. Pretty cool, since the first instrument Jack played at the age of five was the drums. He also began his professional music career as drummer for Goober and the Peas, a Detroit band that started playing together in the early 1990's.

TDW's catchy song, "Hang You From The Heavens" provides that powerful punch that is synonymous with White's boisterous electric blues. Watch for their album "Horehound" in early June, 2009 (Third Man Records). Until then, enjoy!
