Word of the Day: May 13, 2009 ~ chassis

chassis (chas-ee) - noun

A chassis is "the rectangular, usually steel frame, supported on springs and attached to the axles, that holds the body and motor of an automotive vehicle."

First used in the written form around 1655-1665.  From the French word châssis, meaning"frame;" and the Latin word capsa, meaning "box."
